Orléans

I was told I had to visit Orléans. No, not because of it’s links to Joan of Arc. No, not because of it’s impressive Cathedral. No, not because of it’s sleek gold trams that curve through the city. No, the reason I had to visit Orléans had little to do with the city’s tourist value and a lot to do with it’s status as the capital of the Centre region. The reason I had to visit Orléans was to pay an additional tax in order to approve the continuation of my long stay visa. What fun…

Whilst the OFII formalities seemed rather unnecessary and inefficient, it was lovely to spend a day in Orléans. A close friend of mine lived in Orléans a few years ago, working as an au pair for a French couple and their two little boys. It was nice to wander through the city that she had known so well, and to remember the stories she told me about her own French adventure that encouraged me to take this opportunity to go on exchange. What a beautiful city it was!
