The Vosges Mountains

Whilst on our excursion to Kaysersberg, we went up to visit the American war memorial, built in honor of the American regiments that fought along with French troops in Alsace during WWII and played a major role during the later years of the war. The site, on top of one of the hills at the base of the Vosges, provides a great view of the vineyards and the small towns below. We could make out Colmar and the mountains in Germany, on the other side of the Rhine. Even on a cloudy day at the end of winter, with the sun starting to disappear, the scenery was stunning. I can only begin to imagine the view on a late summer’s day, with grapes on the vines and a clear blue sky.
